Temperature Regulation🌡️
💬 If You Didn’t Know, Now You Know
This isn’t a summit, a course, or a TED Talk. This is just someone who had to learn the hard way… and decided not to keep it to themselves.
I wasn’t born knowing how to care for myself. In fact, I was trained out of it — trained to keep the peace, smile politely, hold my bladder, and never make anyone else uncomfortable by existing too loudly.
So if you feel like you’ve been faking adulthood with zero manual, welcome. You’re not broken. You’re under-parented, overexposed, and possibly still running on fumes from 1998.
🧠 Five Survival Needs They Forgot to Teach Us
And no — this isn’t a checklist for how to “do better.” We don’t shame babies for not knowing calculus. So we’re not shaming grownups who never got these basics modeled. Let’s just… name it. Laugh a little. Breathe a lot.
🌬️ Breathing (Yes, Really)
Turns out, *not breathing* is a trauma response. Who knew?
If you’re clenching your jaw, sucking in your stomach, or feeling like your lungs are made of cardboard, you’re not alone.
Try this: Inhale. (Not a “good” breath — just any breath.) Exhale. You just regulated your nervous system 0.2% and that counts. 🍃
💧 Hydration + 🍽️ Food + 💩 Pooping
This is not a joke, but also... kind of hilarious that it needs to be said: eating, drinking water, and pooping are not optional for humans.
Shout out to the people who forgot they were allowed to pee during work hours. Or were made to feel disgusting for normal body needs.
Water counts. A handful of crackers counts. Pooping without shame? Revolutionary.
😴 Rest and Sleep (Or the Closest Thing to It)
If you’re only sleeping when you collapse or cry yourself into a blackout, we get it. Many of us were taught rest = weakness.
But no living creature thrives without downtime. You’re not a productivity bot. You’re a nervous system on legs.
Rest doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to happen. Even zoning out counts more than you think.
🌡️ Temperature Regulation
Hypervigilance is real — but it won’t keep your toes warm. If your body’s freezing and you’re powering through, it’s not grit. It’s old programming.
Were you left out in the cold as a kid? Made to “tough it out” in heat? These things stay with us.
Put on a hoodie. Take off the extra layer. Ask your body what it needs. Even the dogs get sweaters now. 🐶
🎧 Stimulus Balance (Too Much vs. Not Enough)
Ever feel like you’re fried by noise, lights, or people… then suddenly go numb and can’t do anything for 3 days?
Yeah. That’s not laziness. That’s your nervous system flipping a circuit breaker.
We don’t need extremes. Try one gentle thing: turn down the screen, light a candle, move your limbs, put on music that doesn’t make you want to scream. 🎵
👣 So What Now?
I used to think something was wrong with me. Then I realized I just never got the memo. No one told me I mattered. No one modeled care that wasn’t control.
So I made the memo myself. And I’m sharing it with you.
This isn’t about becoming a better person. It’s about becoming a person — again. Or for the first time.
As the author of your life, are you the one who…
- 💥 Names the problem with clarity and compassion?
- 🧬 Sees beneath the surface into generational patterns?
- ✊ Refuses to shame others for what they were never taught?
- 🌾 Offers real guidance rooted in lived truth?
- 👣 Is walking the same path you’re inviting others onto?
Because that’s what healing leadership actually looks like.
And sometimes… it starts with a snack and a nap. 🍌🛏️
